Rates and statutory charges change. Verify current charges with your broker, the exchange and SEBI before relying on these figures. Figures are estimates for planning, not a contract note, and nothing here is advice to buy or sell. A flat DP charge and a capped brokerage make the percentage larger on small positions — the same trade at ten times the size usually breaks even on a smaller move.
Estimated from the numbers you entered — not a projection of guaranteed returns. Statutory and exchange rates as of 2026-08.
About this calculator
Costs are a fixed toll on every round trip, so a trade starts underwater. This expresses that toll as the percentage move needed to get back to zero — a useful sanity check on how small a target can sensibly be, especially for intraday scalps where the move required can be a meaningful part of the target itself.
Formula
- Break-even price = (Buy value + Round-trip charges) ÷ Quantity
- Break-even move % = ((Break-even price − Buy price) ÷ Buy price) × 100
- Charges on the sell leg scale with the sell price, so the answer is solved iteratively
Frequently asked questions
Why does a small trade need a bigger percentage move?
Flat charges — the DP fee, and brokerage once it hits the per-order cap — do not shrink with the position, so they are a larger share of a small trade.
Is this the same as the break-even price calculator?
It is the same maths shown differently. That one gives you a rupee price, this one gives you the percentage move required.
Does it include capital gains tax?
No. Only transaction charges. Tax on gains is assessed on your overall position for the year.
